Our History

136,000 acres

Mt Gipps Station

Richard and Sam Maiden own and operate the combined 136,000 acre properties of Mt Gipps, SmithsWell and Wendalpa Stations. We are rangeland organic meat sheep farmers and live on the property with our 3 children.

We opened Station Stay business in 2019, and are looking forward to giving our guests a truly unique outback experience.

No other place in the Barrier Ranges has been so prominent in local history as the original 800,000 plus acre Mt Gipps Station. Mt Gipps was a squattage long before the first miners cottage was built in Broken Hill and employed many notable Australian names over the years including stockman, drover and miner George Kidman and his brother Sid and Charles Rasp the founder of Broken Hill. When Charles Rasp discovered Broken Hill, the syndicate that opened it were all Mt Gipps boundry riders.
